The Rhodope beauties – for vacation and tourism
Bulgaria is a blessed country, regarding mountains, rivers, forests and lakes. On the territory of Bulgaria is located the largest mountain massif on the Balkan Peninsula - Rila, Pirin and the Rhodope Mountains.
Three majestic mountains connected to each other by beautiful valleys and plains. Thanks to this relief, geographical position and water resources, hundreds of dams were built on the territory of the country, artificially created lakes, with the idea of utilization and conservation of water resources, for drinking water, watering, electricity production, fisheries and fish farming. In the near past, some of the dams also had military strategic importance depending on the proximity to the external border of the then Eastern Bloc and GRAY
Rhodope beauties - that's what we call some of the most- the beautiful Dams in the Rhodopes, nestled in one of the most beautiful mountains in Europe – Rodopa mountain. The mountain is conditionally divided into Eastern and Western Rhodopes:
The bigger and more impressive, dams, which you will encounter during your excursion trip for rest, recreation or a walk in the western part of the Rhodopes with :
Dospat Dam – a favorite place to rest and fishing to thousands of tourists. It is located here, the largest aquaculture farm for raising rainbow and salmon trout. The city of Dospat is the highest located city in Bulgaria.
Shiroka Polyana Dam – preferred location for free camping and hiking. During the summer, the banks of the dam are filled with the tents and caravans of game and fishing enthusiasts. Many mushroom and berry pickers from all over the country also come to the area.
Golyam Beglik Dam( former Vasil Kolarov) – a beautiful Rhodope dam with beautiful bays, increasingly famous, among the young artistic and creative circles with the eponymous festival for free artists, organized every year in. August
Vacha Dam – famous for its steep banks, carp farm and houseboats.
Tsankov Kamak Dam – the most recently built dam in Bulgaria. Link of the cascade - Dospat - Tsankov kamak – Vacha - We shout. The waters of the dam reach the town of Devin.
